A34 / M40 J9 - Traffic Management Bulletin No.6
Please find below the programmed dates for the works on the A34/ M40 Junction 9 Wendlebury Improvement. The dates are the most current estimates of when the works will happen but are susceptible to changes as the works progress. The information given below relates to the traffic management arrangements during the day and night.
- The Project concerns the slip-roads, the roundabout and side roads - not the main carriageway of the Motorway. The strategy is to maintain the existing two lanes through the works during day time; narrowing to one lane and closures will take place at nights only (maximum 10pm to 5am - and subject to traffic counts being below a set number).
- The early works will be the reduction of lane widths on the M40 northbound off-slip and the southbound A34 and also placing of steel safety barriers ("Varioguard") along the verge of the southbound A34. This will provide a safe layout for road users and the workforce - allowing the A34 southbound embankment to be widened for the addition of a third lane.
- Later works (from early November) will involve various night-time closures at the junction for work to adjust kerb lines and to resurface the roundabout. The renewed white lines will then provide traffic with 3 continuous full-width lanes along the M40 southbound off-slip, around the roundabout and down the southbound A34 for a distance of 600 metres.
To better control the flow of traffic, and to provide a safer environment for road users and the workforce, a 40mph speed limit will be in place with a 10mph convoy system introduced for night work where required for safety..

On the A34 southbound and the M40 northbound off-slip the two narrow-lanes configuration with temporary steel safety barrier (introduced over the weekend of Aug. 7th /8th 2010) will remain unchanged until early November.
The temporary 40mph speed limit will remain in force through the works.
This arrangement provides a safe layout for road users and for the workforce whilst continuing to provide two running lanes for traffic.
The works are due to be completed by January 2011.
