Town Centre Strategy

On Tuesday 25th June 2019 over 70 people from a wide spectrum of stakeholders including: County, District and Town Councillors, Bicester Vision, Bicester Village, the Church, the Army, Property Owners, Investors, Traders, Farmers, Oxford Brookes University and Local School 6th Formers visited Bicester to participate in a town centre focused workshop led by Bill Grimsey. Participants discussed broad themes and learned more about the developments taking place in the town, including Graven Hill, North West Bicester Eco Town, Garden Town and Healthy place making. Participants agreed to form a project team of 17 volunteers, representative of the attendees, to take the task of Re-imagining Bicester Town Centre for the 21st Century on to the next stage using the outputs from the workshop.

The plan is to include but not limited to:

  • A Strategic Vision (Why live, work, play and visit Bicester)
  • Set of Values and Principles
  • Recognition of the importance of our heritage
  • Guidelines for Place Management that recognises mobility, connectivity, change of use, housing and the environment
  • A technology strategy for our town centre
  • Added value to complement and link the Cherwell Industrial Strategy, The OxLEP Local Industrial Strategy with plans laid out by Bicester Village and Bicester Motion
  • Ideas to create daytime, evening and night time cultures
  • Acknowledgment that Bicester is a great place to live and work in other areas
  • An inclusive vision for all stakeholders, providing activities and attractions for young and older communities
  • Guidelines on investment and attracting both public and private investors

As well as facilitating other 3rd Party Logistics firms like DHL to be involved, Solar panel contact via the Low Carbon Hub to support on the building design for sustainable construction."
