The Town Council has 15 democratically elected Councillors covering four wards across the town. Councillors are usually elected for a four-year term and attend meetings, at the Council’s headquarters in Garth Park, that cover Planning, Policy, Environment and Finance and Town Council Meetings.
The Town Council also organises a range of community activities and events, including summer concerts, family fun days, Remembrance Day service and parade and the Christmas lights switch-on event.
The full Town Council meets approximately every six weeks, but the standing committees of Policy Environment Planning and Finance meet on a cycle to deal with the day to day business of Council. Members of the public are invited to ask questions during a ten minute period before these meetings. Should you want details of when meetings are held please contact Bicester Town Council.
The Town Council is enthusiastically involved in many aspects of town life including Bicester in Bloom, Britain in Bloom and Christmas Lights. The Town Council is the major player in the revival of the town Carnival, a family event with a procession, arena, events, competitions, charity stalls and farmers market stalls. Various other summer events are organised for the people of Bicester that vary from teddy bears’ picnics for the youngest Bicester residents to tribute bands for those a little older. Civic events also feature prominently throughout the year and the Town Council is very proud to have connections with 23rd Pioneer Regiment and works closely with them and other organisations within Bicester to create a better Bicester.
Bicester Town Council is also responsible for allotments for our green-fingered residents in the Bicester area and currently has four sites with a fifth hopefully becoming available soon.
Bicester Town Council has its offices in The Garth, within the picturesque and award-winning Garth Park grounds. Garth Park is the showpiece of Bicester Town Council, who also manage and maintain the park. In the park are well-kept lawns, formal gardens, seats, picnic benches, a bandstand, a well-equipped children’s play area and a BMX/skateboard park; all of which are well used by Bicester residents and visitors.
