Cherwell District Council

Cherwell District Council, as a founding member of Bicester Vision, remains active in its support for the partnership. Through its economic development service the Council works closely with Bicester Vision partners to provide support to the town’s job seekers, budding entrepreneurs, existing businesses and inward investors.

Bicester is one of the fastest growing towns in the country. To ensure the town develops in a sustainable way, a shared vision for the town has been adopted that seeks to create a vibrant place where people choose to live, to work and to spend their leisure time in sustainable ways. To deliver the Eco Bicester Vision work is being undertaken to ensure new development supports and integrates with the town whilst town-wide initiatives are taking place to create a fantastic place to live and work. The aim is for at least one new job opportunity to be provided for every new house built in the town, providing local jobs; encouraging the evolution of a new economy for the town based on innovative businesses as the town moves towards a low carbon economy.

Lynn Pratt, Cherwell District Councillor and Council representative on Bicester Vision’s Board explains:
“The Council is at the forefront of community leadership and making things happen. We’ve invested in the Bicester Vision partnership since its inception providing resources and an office to help the partnership work at the heart of our Bicester community. With such exciting plans ahead the town needs everybody to pull together and Bicester Vision has an important role in enabling this to happen by drawing upon the strengths of people committed to the town for the benefit of all.”

A Masterplan for Bicester expansion over the next 20 years is also being led by Cherwell involving partners in defining the type of development needed and reflecting that within the emerging local plan.

As well as facilitating other 3rd Party Logistics firms like DHL to be involved, Solar panel contact via the Low Carbon Hub to support on the building design for sustainable construction."
