Zeta LEDs light up art installations

Countryside Properties (Bicester) Ltd and the artist Suzanne O’Driscoll, commissioned LED and solar lighting developers Zeta Specialist Lighting, to design bespoke LED systems to light up two new art installations sited at Kingsmere village centre in Bicester.

Kingsmere, is a new village community on the outskirts of Bicester that will ultimately provide over 2,300 new homes, supported by new schools, recreation and sports facilities and a new village centre that provides residents with essential facilities including a new convenience store and local shops, multi-use community centre with a separate youth centre building, day nursery, car parking and community recycling centre. Local artist Suzanne O’Driscoll created two stainless steel artworks – The Pavilion and The Umbrella – which were installed in the new Kingsmere village centre at the heart of the development.

These were fitted to each of the four legs of the larger piece The Pavilion, providing light that spilled up into the structure and onto the floor. The overall effect was to create a warm welcoming feel as people passed under the piece which stands 5.4 metres tall.

Zeta’s LED spotlights were fitted along the rings of the second installation The Umbrella, adding interest and a glow effect to the piece.

Adrian Dennis, Managing Director, Zeta Specialist Lighting said: “This was a really interesting project. We are delighted with the end result, by customising our LEDs and creating bespoke housings, we have ensured that people can enjoy and see the artwork, not what’s lighting it.”
