The work on Bicester as a Healthy New Town is coming along well. Cherwell District Council working with Oxfordshire Clinical Research, A2Dominion, Bicester Town Council and Bicester Vision are developing a range of exciting initiatives to promote health and well-being at home and in the workplace.
The team includes Jenny Barker Assistant Director for Bicester, CDC Nicola Riley, Shared Community Services Manager, CDC Rosie Rowe, Bicester HNT Programme Director
With an official launch happening on May 13th 2017, there is much happening behind the scenes. Workstreams already underway include:
The Built Environment, Community Activation and New Models of Care.
Its two key priorities are:
• To increase the number of children and adults who are physically active and a healthy weight. (In Bicester 1 in 4 of children aged 2-10 are overweight or obese and 58% of women and 65% of men are overweight or obese)
• To reduce the number of people who feel socially isolated or lonely in order to improve their mental wellbeing (17% of older people are in contact with family
friends and neighbours
less than once a week).
