Cherwell District Council has appointed a new Director to spearhead the further redevelopment of Bicester. The new post of Director (Bicester) will be taken up by Karen Curtin, currently the Head of Finance and Procurement for Cherwell District Council and South Northamptonshire Council.
Leader of Cherwell District Council, Cllr Barry Wood said: “Bicester is undergoing unparalleled growth that will see the town transformed into a thriving economic hub for Oxfordshire and beyond. The town is already feeling the benefit of new jobs, enhanced economic activity and housing growth. We felt that we needed someone who will focus solely on Bicester and provide the key role in delivering the town’s future. I know that we’ve made the right choice in Karen.”
Chief Executive of Cherwell District Council and South Northamptonshire Council, Sue Smith, added: “With major projects already underway as well as coming forward, Bicester is one of the most dynamic towns in the country. We needed to put someone in post who will make sure all of these projects fulfill their potential. “
Karen will take up the reins of the new role from 1 September. She said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed Director (Bicester) and I’m very excited at the prospect of delivering challenging and complex projects that will create jobs, deliver significant housing growth, and support businesses and residents.
“I have enjoyed my time immensely as Joint Head of Finance And Procurement at Cherwell and South Northamptonshire councils. I’ve worked with great teams and councillors. The experiences gained on our joint working journey will stand me in good stead as I embrace this new challenge”
Karen has 18 years of practical experience in financial and general management with a successful track record of managing and delivering complex projects or programmes in the public and private sector. It includes experience across a number of markets; European, public, private, local government and voluntary sector organisations.
Before joining Cherwell District Council in 2008 as Chief Accountant Karen worked for the Attendo Group, Europe’s largest provider of a range of health and social care services for older people.
The new appointment follows on from the successful opening of Bicester’s new multi-million pound town centre development earlier this month.
