A record number of employers took to the Bicester Job Fair to advertise employment and apprentice opportunities across the local area.
On Friday, 17 October, Cherwell District Council was joined by 28 other organisations in hosting the town’s second job fair of the year at the John Paul II Centre in Bicester.
More than 120 jobseekers turned out to view about 250 local job opportunities and 80 apprenticeship schemes in a bid to bring employers and employees together under one roof.
Cllr Norman Bolster, lead member for economy and estates, said: “Following on from the record-breaking turnout at Banbury Job Fair in September, we have now enjoyed the same level of success in Bicester. The Job Fairs are a useful and logical way to bring all relevant parties together under one roof, supported by professionals who are able to offer advice about composing CVs and conducting interviews. With so many individuals and organisations taking advantage of this unique opportunity it is evident of a strong, varied and willing economy here in Cherwell.”
Both full and part time opportunities were advertised at the job fair, as were permanent and temporary vacancies. A vast number of employment sectors were represented at the event including construction, catering and office administration.
Jobseekers who were unable to attend the Bicester Job Fair can still receive free advice and support including information about local vacancies at the fortnightly Bicester Job Club. The free drop-in sessions will resume on Friday, 31 October from 11am – 1pm at John Paul II Centre.
