The Search starts NOW for the Best Businesses in Cherwell

Having been a phenomenal success in 2012 and 2013, the Original Cherwell Business Awards have now launched their search for the best businesses in North Oxfordshire and thus their 2014 finalists.

Nominations are being accepted in a range of categories with the finalists to be announced in March 2014.  The three short-listed finalists in each category will be automatically submitted to the prestigious 2014 Oxfordshire Business Awards taking place in June 2014.

Changes for the 2014 awards are the creation of the ‘Customer Care’ category, along with more marketing and publicity around the awards themselves.  The creation and launch of a bespoke web site in 2013, which can be found at www.cherwellbusinessawards.co.uk  has provided a one stop location where you will find full details of the award categories, entry forms and more information about the sponsors as well.

Working in partnership, Banbury & District Chamber of Commerce, Bicester and District Chamber of Commerce, Bicester Vision and Cherwell District Council, are this year supported by Spratt Endicott Solicitors, Ellacotts LLP, Begbroke Science Park and Peepul24, all of whom are delighted to formally announce their launch for a fantastic and consecutive 3rd year.

There are nine categories that business can either be nominated, or self nominate, for plus an overall winner.  The categories that business can enter are:

The award categories and sponsors are:-

The Bloxham Mill New Business Award

The Spratt Endicott Established Business Award

The Ellacotts Business Person of the Year Award

The Begbroke Science Park Innovation & Creativity Award

The Oxford and Cherwell Valley College Staff Training and Development Award

The Bicester Village Customer Care Award

The NatWest Small Business Award

The Cherwell District Council Charity and Community Award

The Integration Technology Export Award

The Norbar Business of the Year Award

There is no separate entry for this most prestigious award: The winner will be decided upon by the sponsor of this award chosen from the finalists of any of the other 9 categories.

The timetable for the awards is as follows:

  • Entries can be submitted from 21st October 2013, and the shut off date for receipt is January 31st, 2014.
  • In February 2014 all applications will be assessed and judged, with the finalists announced in March 2014
  • Winners will be announced at the Gala dinner and awards ceremony in May 2014.

Check out the awards website for more details www.cherwellbusinessawards.co.uk.

Sponsors for all 9 categories, and the overall Cherwell Business of the year, were identified within weeks of starting to seek support.  (N.B. A full list of award sponsors is detailed below.)

A pool of qualified volunteer judges will assess applications. With entries being reduced to three finalists in each category and the winners announced at the Gala dinner and awards ceremony in May 2014.

Banbury and District Chamber of Commerce:

Richard Hunter, Chair comments; The Banbury and District Chamber of Commerce are once again involved in organising the Cherwell Business Awards. We are proud to back the event and see it as a great way of showcasing business success throughout North Oxfordshire. We would encourage businesses from within the area to apply for an award”.

Bicester and District Chamber of Commerce:

Ben Jackson – Chairman observes “Last year these awards again delivered excellent exposure for the entrants and finalists.  Entering for 2014 is a really good way of getting your business noticed and takes very little effort; have a go, you never know!”

Helen Le Brocq, Director at OYAP Trust – Winner of the Cherwell Business Awards 2013 ‘Charity and Community Award’

Helen Le Brocq – Director at OYAP Trust says ‘Winning the Cherwell Business Awards 2013 Charity and Community Award has been one of the best things that has ever happened to us. The recognition and reward for all our hard work has been a huge encouragement for us, and has given our morale a significant boost. It often feels to a small charity that our work is invisible, and this award has made us that much more visible, which has helped with the kind of support we have received this year. To be able to say ‘OYAP Trust, award-winning charity’ is hugely significant in terms of our credibility, and for a charity this is priceless. We have received support from the local business community who have that extra level of confidence and belief in us, and have been chosen as charity of the year by Sainsbury’s Bicester, to which accolade I have no  doubt our Cherwell Business Award has contributed.

We are proud and honoured to have received this award, to be considered as a successful charitable business by the business community, and for young people in Cherwell to feel the benefit of this success through our work. We will have the confidence to ask the local business community to support us in our new empty shop youth café initiative, and we will be sure the support that we need will be there. We are indeed on Cloud 9!’
